Dani‘s PPI at Grade 7 to 9
Dani_in_Kenia, 17:31h
With junior high school students, I sing English worship songs accompanied by guitar. For the lessons, I'm currently using a basic faith course in English that I designed myself during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most lessons begin with a short game, then I teach a topic. With smaller classes, I try to develop the lesson together with the students. With larger classes, this is unfortunately difficult, so I tend to use more traditional, teacher-centered instruction.

Each student receives a booklet in A5 format to accompany each topic. Each lesson includes a page with various questions and puzzles. After my lesson, we fill out the booklet together.

Once a topic is completely finished, each student is allowed to take their booklet home so they can review what we have worked on.
There are a total of 10 topics, each with 3 to 6 subtopics:
1. The Bible – An old Book – is it still relevant?
2. God – Who is God?
3. Myself – Who am I
4. Jesus – Who is Jesus?
5. Jesus – My best friend
6. Jesus died – That is unfair
7. Born again – What does it mean to be born again?
8. Assurance of salvation – How do I know that I am saved?
9. Holy Spirit 1 – Who is the Holy Spirit?
10. Holy Spirit 2 – What does the Holy Spirit?

Dani‘s PPI at Grade 4 to 6
Dani_in_Kenia, 17:29h
With the children in Grade 4 to 6, we mostly sing English songs that I've written on manila papers. One student holds up the cardboard while the others sing and I accompany us on the guitar.

Then I tell the students a Bible lesson, usually in English and only occasionally in Swahili. I also use various visual aids to help the children better imagine the Bible stories. At the end of the lesson, we learn a Bible verse together from the New International Version (NIV), which is an English Bible that uses simple English and is translated closely to the original Biblical text.

Dani‘s PPI at Nursery Schools and in Grade 1 to 3
Dani_in_Kenia, 17:28h
With nursery children and children in grades 1 to 3, I mainly sing action songs in English and Swahili. For each Bible lesson, I have a self-made picture book. During the lesson, the children look at the different pictures while I read the text to them in Swahili.

The memory verse is a Bible verse that I have simplified into Swahili and accompanied by movements. This way, I help the younger children memorize a simple Bible verse each week, for example, "God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1) and in Kiswahili: “Mungu aliumba mbingu nan chi. (Mwanzo 1:1)

Dani‘s PPI Lessons
Dani_in_Kenia, 17:26h
Since 2013, I have been teaching PPI at various schools in Kenya. First, I sing some songs with the children in English and Swahili. Then we pray together. Afterwards, I tell the students a Bible story with a memory verse. The lesson always ends with a prayer.

The Kenyan PPI Programm
Dani_in_Kenia, 17:25h
In Kenyan schools, there is a program called PPI. PPI stands for "Programme For Pastoral Instruction".

The Kenyan Ministry of Education, in its Education Act (1968, revised in 1980 and 2013), provides for specific curricula for the Pastoral Instruction Programme (PPI). The aim is to offer instruction in various faiths (Catholic, Protestant, Adventist, Islamic, Hindu, etc.) in public primary schools.

The PPI (Protestant Pastoral Institute) aims to give churches and religious communities the opportunity to nurture elementary school students in their faith and to help them mature into morally upright and responsible members of society. The PPI consists of weekly one-hour lessons in which a pastor, church leader, or teacher introduces the children to God and spirituality.
